Alloy Wheel Fitment Checklist Before You Order

A wheel can look right and still be unsuitable for the car. Before ordering, confirm the complete specification against the exact make, model, year, trim and brake package. Do not rely on a matching diameter or bolt pattern alone.

1. Confirm The Exact Vehicle

Record the registration year, generation, body style, engine or trim and any factory performance package. Cars with the same model name can use different brakes, hubs and wheel specifications.

2. Check PCD Or Bolt Pattern

PCD describes the number of mounting holes and the diameter of the circle they form, such as 5x112. The wheel PCD must match the vehicle unless a properly engineered conversion is explicitly approved.

3. Check The Centre Bore

The centre bore must fit over the vehicle hub. A wheel with a larger bore may use the correct hub-centric ring when the manufacturer permits it. A bore that is too small will not fit without machining, which should never be assumed acceptable.

4. Compare Width And Offset Together

Wheel width and ET determine the inner and outer position. Calculate the change from the original specification, then verify suspension, strut, arch, steering-lock and balancing-weight clearance.

5. Confirm Brake Clearance

Diameter alone does not guarantee brake clearance. Spoke curvature and barrel shape can interfere with calipers. Performance trims often use larger brakes than standard versions of the same car.

6. Choose A Suitable Tyre Size

The tyre must suit the wheel width and keep the overall rolling circumference within an acceptable range. Check load and speed ratings, clearance and manufacturer recommendations.

7. Check Wheel Load Rating

Every wheel must meet or exceed the required load for the vehicle. This is particularly important for electric vehicles, SUVs, vans and heavily loaded cars.

8. Confirm The Fixings

Check whether the wheel requires different bolts, studs, nuts, washers or seating profiles. Tapered and radius seats are not interchangeable. Confirm thread size and length.

9. Consider TPMS

Cars using direct tyre-pressure sensors may need compatible valves or new sensors. Confirm whether existing sensors can be transferred and whether new units need coding.

10. Check Legal, Insurance And Warranty Requirements

Tell the insurer about modifications when required. Confirm the wheels and tyres comply with applicable UK requirements and consider any vehicle warranty, lease or finance terms.

Before Paying

• Get fitment confirmation in writing from the seller
• Check what is included: rings, fixings, valves and tyres
• Confirm the return policy for test-fitted wheels
• Confirm responsibility if supplied fitment information is wrong
• Use a qualified fitter
